VNIIFTRI invited Chinese colleagues to participate in the comparisons of national standards

Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, November 12, 2025 — FSUE “VNIIFTRI”, as part of the Rosstandart delegation, participated in a meeting of the working subgroup on cooperation in the field of metrology of the Permanent Russian-Chinese Working Group on Cooperation in the Field of Standardization, Metrology, Conformity Assessment and Inspection Control. The event was held in person from November 4-7 in the People's Republic of China, in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

During the plenary sessions, issues such as an updated analysis of the state and demand for certified reference materials in the petrochemical industry of China, metrological traceability system and new developments in the field of photoelectronics, the Russian state project “Suverenitet” creating new types of reference materials, the state verification schedule for measuring liquid volume, research and application of online analyzers for natural gas main pipelines, the Chinese metrological support system for multiphase flows of oil, gas and water were considered.

"Cooperation with metrological institutes of other countries is an integral part of our activities, which provides metrological support for international economic relations between countries in order to eliminate technical barriers. To this end, we organize and actively participate in comparisons of state standards conducted between metrological institutes to confirm the equivalence of the results obtained, in particular, with such an important strategic partner as the People's Republic of China," said Vladimir Dobrovolsky, Head of the Research Department of Physical, Chemical and Electrical Measurements at FSUE “VNIIFTRI”.

Vladimir Dobrovolsky provided the meeting participants with information on the proposed and planned comparisons of VNIIFTRI within the framework of the activities of TC 1.8 "Physics and Chemistry" of COOMET and invited Chinese colleagues to participate. In particular, a two–way pilot comparison was proposed to determine the specific electrical conductivity of liquids (SEC) in the lower ranges of values, which were established based on the results of improving GET 132, the state primary standard for specific electrical conductivity of liquids.; a two-way key comparison with a SEC value of 0.5 Sm/m, which allow upgrading the CMC available at VNIIFTRI, is the result of comparisons describing the possibilities of verification and calibration of measuring instruments in a specific area; as well as two–way pilot comparisons for determining relative humidity and setting the temperature unit at the triple points of mercury and argon.

"In addition to the proposed bilateral comparisons, Chinese colleagues were invited to participate in other COOMET projects on comparisons in the field of physical and chemical measurements, coordinated by VNIIFTRI. All the comparisons presented at the meeting will help achieve equivalence of the results obtained between the two countries, including in the oil and gas sector. Also, some of the comparisons are organized based on the results of VNIIFTRI's participation in the Russian state project "Suverenitet," Vladimir Dobrovolsky emphasized.

Representatives of the Russian and Chinese delegations noted the need for further participation in international comparisons in order to ensure the international equivalence of national standards, comprehensive cooperation in the field of standardization and metrology, as well as cooperation on the development of national standardization systems of both countries.
