VNIIFTRI hosted an extended meeting of the Russian National Committee of the International Scientific Radio Union
Moscow Region, February 15, 2024 – An extended meeting of the “Radiometrology” Commission (Commission A) of the Russian National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science (RNC URSI) was held on the basis of the Russian Metrological Institute of Technical Physics and Radio Engineering (VNIIFTRI) of Rosstandart. The scientists discussed the issues of the development of international cooperation and the latest achievements in the field of radio engineering and time-frequency measurements.
"Cooperation between the countries within the International Union of Radio Science is extremely important for maintaining and evaluating the relevance of the work carried out today, their level and prospects. The meeting of these RNC commissions, which took place after a long break and brought together representatives of the most reputable scientific organizations, showed that interest in cooperation in the field of radiometrology and medical radioelectronics is extremely high," noted Ivan Malai, Deputy General Director of the FSUE VNIIFTRI, Chairman of the RNC Commission A.
During the meeting, Elena Pavlyukova, Scientific Secretary of the RNC URSI, spoke about the URSI General Assembly held in 2023, its main topics and decisions taken.
VNIIFTRI scientists presented reports on the development of the base of domestic standards of radio engineering quantities, as well as the achievements of the Institute in developing optical frequency standards based on strontium and ytterbium atoms.
"Despite the applied and practical nature of the research conducted by VNIIFTRI, we need to maintain interaction with fundamental science. This guarantees further development both in the line of scientific developments and in the field of production of high–precision devices," said Igor Chirkov, member of Commission A, Head of the Center for the Development of Microwave Technologies and Devices, Deputy Head of the Research Department of Radio Engineering Measurements of the FSUE VNIIFTRI.
During the meeting special attention was paid to the issue of involving young scientists in the work of RNC commissions.
More than 20 scientists, including representatives of scientific institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, took part in the meeting. As a result of the meeting, it was decided to hold a separate meeting of the heads of the RNC URSI Commissions to discuss the priority areas for further activities of the Committee.
For reference:
The International Union of Radio Science (Union Radio-Scientifique Internationale) was established in 1919 during the Constitutive Meeting of the International Science Council (now ISC). URSI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization under the International Science Council, responsible for stimulating and coordinating studies in the field of radiosciences on an international basis.
The Russian National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science is represented by the Russian Academy of Sciences. The RNC deals with current problems of radiophysics, radioengineering, electronics and computer science.
