Scholarship named after V.I. Pustovoit for young scientists and specialists was established at VNIIFTRI

29 February 2024

Moscow Region, February 29, 2024 – In order to encourage the scientific activity of young scientists and specialists of the Russian Metrological Institute of Technical Physics and Radio Engineering (VNIIFTRI) of Rosstandart, as well as to honour the memory of an outstanding Russian scientist, by order of the General Director award named for Vladislav Ivanovich Pustovoit was been established.

"Talented youth are the pride of VNIIFTRI. Our guys participate in international and Russian competitions and conferences, conduct promising developments in priority areas, publish scientific papers, develop new equipment. The establishment of the Vladislav Pustovoit Scholarship is another step to support young professionals. The Institute has already established the award of the outstanding metrologist Sergei Alexandrovich Khristianovich, which is given based on the results of the eponymous competition of works among young employees of the Institute," says Sergey Donchenko, General Director of the FSUE “VNIIFTRI”.

V.I. Pustovoit Scholarship is awarded to young scientists and specialists of the Institute under the age of 35 inclusively based on the results of the Rating of young scientists and specialists of the FSUE “VNIIFTRI” over the past year.

The Rating is made annually by adding up points awarded for scientific and technical achievements, which include such indicators as postgraduate studies, conference reports, publications of the RSCI and the Higher Attestation Commission (categories K1-K3) and others. The scholarship is awarded starting from the next month after the Rating is made and will be paid monthly throughout the year.

Vladislav Pustovoit is an outstanding Russian scientist, a specialist in the field of solid-state physics, general theory of relativity, acousto–electronics and acousto-optics. Together with Academician Y.V. Gulyaev, he was the first in the world to put forward the idea of using surface acoustic waves in electronics, which led to the appearance of a new field of science and technology – acousto-electronics. Vladislav Ivanovich identified one of the activities of the FSUE “VNIIFTRI”, which led to the creation of a research department, a scientific school and the emergence of an almost new branch of instrument engineering.

Vladislav Pustovoit first proposed the idea of using the Michelson interferometer to detect gravitational waves. In 2019, the scientist was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation for this discovery.
